Bangalore: Is It a Crime to Talk about Religion? - Yeddyurappa

TNN

Bangalore, Feb 16: Stung by the bad publicity that his government received over the last few weeks on issues ranging from moral policing to anti-terrorism awareness campaign, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa gave vent to his displeasure at a public function on Sunday.

"Is it a crime to talk about religion? Is it a crime to infuse patriotism in young minds", he asked while addressing a function of Sri Degula Mutt of Kanakapura in Ramnagaram district.

Stating that culture and respect for ancestors is the base of any religion, the chief minister said: "If at all our (Hindu) religion is still alive, it is because of the efforts of our ancestors. It is now our duty to take it forward, not destroy it as a section of people are doing now."

Taking a dig at the opposition and media, he asked: "Why do they get carried away and make judgments opposing it for the sake of opposition?"

Dear CM, I disagree with your reported statement. Belief in the Holy Scriptures and its practice is the base for the religion. Culture and respect for ancestors/their values is base for the society.

Two years back a fundamental organization (BD) beat women and children in a prayer hall near Kankanady. Peace, love, humanity, communal harmony and amity for which Mangalore/coastal Karnataka was well-known is now torn with mistrust, hate and vengeance. Is this the culture and ‘efforts’ our future generation should be proud off? More you protect such hate values! more you will be in deep shit!.

Being head of state you are failing to protect common people. People are being humiliated heads, bones are being broken , social fabric being torn out. If religious conversion is the bone of contention why then Hindu organization like Hare Rama Hare Krisha … are active for similar conversion to Hinduism in Secular Christian countries starting from New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Europe, Canada, ,America…? Is it not Hypocrisy?

Absolutely right Jude. But these dirty politicians will never ever understand that. It does not make any difference to them. They are not bothered about the country, society, culture, humanity. Their only aim is destroy peace and harmony among the people and get benefit out of it and blame others. What more we can expect from these corrupted polilical leaders. All bacause of vote bank. Nothing else.

Mr Yeddi, it is not wrong to talk about your religion. Nobody has any objections to it. But let me tell you what is wrong. Stuffing religion down somebody's throat is wrong, Beating up women and students in the name of culture is wrong. Stopping people from meeting and talking to their friends from other faith's is wrong. Humiliating couples who meet at public places and go about their business without disturbing anyone else is wrong. Moral policing is wrong. Preventing adults from visiting a pub or bar is wrong. You see, we live in a democracy and the reason that you are in power today is because it is this democracy that has put you where you are today.

You can be there only as long as the people want you and the position is not permanent. None of your actions as the Chief Minister of the state have provided any proof or comfort to the people to warrant your position. Mr. Yeddi there is still time left to atone for all these mistakes. I hope you will take my humble advice and change for the better, if not Mr Yeddi the wrath of the people will surely catch up with you. and please do not keep blaming the opposition. If they are at wrong then please expose them. You have all the tools of the state at your disposal to do that.

If you are so much interefered and interested in religion become a poojary or a priest. Secondly, if you love religion why your party men and associates organized attack on churches? The wounds will never heal.

If you are so keen on talking about religion, you should have become a priest not a politician. You guys are nothing but unholy crooks who misuse and abuse religion for your own selfish interests.

No - Its not crime to talk about religion but its not correct when you took oath to serve the state that elected you as their CM. When you will be appointed as a particular religion head, you have all rights to talk about it. People of Karnataka look forward to live in harmony as they did before not to be directed by goons as its happening now.

Mr Yeddyurappa its not a crime if its in your home. However, if you are the Chief Minister you are supposed to represent all the family members of the state. Moreover you should concentrate on governing the state and seeing to the betterment of its people. Leave religion to the priests. God does not need your help as he has been in the role ever since humans existed. Get it small man.
