Mangalore, Feb 17: "The residual income out of 'Karavali Utsav' this year will be used for the construction of the drama theatre here," informed Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, speaking at  the closing ceremony of Karavali Utsav on Sunday February 15.

"In the previous year, the amount so earned was given to Red Cross Society. Karavali Utsav is a part of the life of Coastal people. Apart from it, it is also offers a platform to display our traditional culture to the people," he said.

All efforts by the miscreants to sully the image of the city will fail miserably, said MLA Yogish Bhat, speaking on the occasion.

Strict legal action must be taken against miscreants involved in recent incidents that projected the city in bad light. The media and politicians must act responsibly while reporting and reacting to such untoward situations, he stressed.

The state government has decided transform the city into a tourism destination and also to establish a  world-class Marine Aquarium Park in the city. Tender for the same will be invited soon,  Bhat explained.

Criticizing the role of the media, B Nagaraj Shetty, chairman, Coastal Development Authority, felt that some of the media, which never gave publicity to positive developments taking place here, pounced upon trivial incidents and provided wide coverage to exaggerated versions of such incidents.

K P Sucharita Shetty, president, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, P Shivashankar, chief executive officer, zilla panchayat, Prabhakar Sharma, headquarters assistant, DC office, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, district president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Dr Madhava Bhandary, president, Mangalore Urban Development Authority and others were present on the occasion.
