Udupi, Feb 17: The Supreme Court, through a verdict relating to the dispute over the rights on Yakshagana Ballets of the late Dr Kota Shivaram Karant, has upheld the claim of Malini Mallya over them.  The verdict has gone against Manipal Academy of General Education and MGM Yakshagana Kendra.

The state High Court had in the past, decided the case in favour of petitioner Malini Mallya, who runs Dr K Shivaram Karant Research and Study Institute in Saligram in the district. The Academy had approached the Supreme Court against the verdict. The Supreme Court has upheld the stand taken by the High Court.

Mallya said that this is a victory for the truth. She added that she wants to preserve the intellectual property Dr Karant had handed over to her and that she does not gain anything monetarily out of this victory. Future generations will benefit from this decision, she commented.
