Beltangady, Feb 18: A tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas to Bangalore from Mangalore lost balance while negotiating the Addahole bend  on the Shiradi ghat stretch of the road and fell on its side. As a result, vehicular traffic on the road was seriously affected.

The tanker fell on its side on the night of Monday February 16. Fire brigade personnel along with their vehicles came from Beltangady, Puttur and MRPL to avert any catastrophe. Vehicular traffic resumed on the road only after the gas was transferred to another tanker by the evening of Tuesday February 17.

Till then, vehicles coming from Bangalore were diverted to Subrahmanya route while those which came from Mangalore were sent on the Ichlampady-Kadaba road. Local people said that heavy vehicles regularly meet with accidents at the bend, which is very difficult to negotiate.
