Bangalore: Yeddyurappa Sets Rider for Bullet Train

TNN

Bangalore, Feb 18:
The dream of having high-speed Bullet trains in Karnataka has been nipped in the bud, with the state government rejecting outright railway minister Lalu Prasad’s offer to run such services. It termed the Bullet train as “not in the state’s best interest”.

Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, in a letter to Lalu on Tuesday, said his government will participate in the project only if the Chennai-Bangalore High Speed Rail Link is extended to Mumbai via Hubli, with an additional link to Mysore. In the Railway Budget, Lalu had announced that Bullet trains will run between Chennai and Bangalore, and Bangalore and Ernakulam.
“Such projects will help only the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala come to Bangalore and not the people of Karnataka,” Yeddyurappa maintained in his letter.

While requesting the minister to modify the High Speed Rail Link projects, the CM said: “If our suggestions are not taken into consideration, it would be difficult for Karnataka to support the projects envisaged by the Railways.’’

However, railway officials said the proposal sent by the CM is totally impractical, considering the existing railway infrastructure in Hubli and Mysore. “I don’t think the railway minister will be pleased with the demand,’’ he added.

I must agree with Mr Yediruappa. A wise decision. A bullet rail link with major cities like mumbai or delhi would be more ideal for us than to cities like madras and ernakulam. Until and unless we are linked to mumbai do not allow the link to madras or ernakulam.

A bullet train link to mysore would be ideal or even upto belgaum as it would bring kannadigas closer. You are a wise man and hats off to this wise decision.

Yeddy has gone nutty. Bangalore - Chennai corridor is a heavy density traffic zone, which requires a Bullet Train, as the distance can be covered in a shorter time than at present. Starting a train from Mysore - Bangalore - Hubli - Mumbai defeats the very purpose for what the Bullet Train is meant for. Hope better sense prevails. Yeddy says that with Bullet Trains more people from Kerala and Tamil Nadu will enter Karnataka....I disagree, as these people will enter Karnataka any way, whether Bullet Train or not. Also, Bullet Train fares would not come cheap, as one already knows the fare on Shatabdi Express.

Mr. Yediyurappa go ahead and grab the oppotunity !!! Your excuses and conditions will not be houred as you are nobody to put conditions to the centre. Remember the guage conversion between Mangalore and Bangalore took more than 10 years. Now you want to delay the fast train between Bangalore and Chennai, because of your bird brain!!!! Go ahead and fight for the rest, incase you are in power!!!!!

Karnataka will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedom, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
