Chikmagalur, Feb 23: Admitting that the state government had come under lot of pressure from legislators on the issue of transfer of employees immediately after coming to power in the state last year, chief minister Yeddyurappa said that the government is committed to follow a strict policy with regard to transfers this year. He was speaking at a press conference held here on Sunday February 22, during his visit to the district for laying foundation stones for various projects.

"We want to build the state as a model one and justify the faith reposed on us by the people. Those who have rich experience of having run the government for long at the centre and the state need to support the efforts of the state government, rather than criticizing everything that we do. The prime minister who promised to sanction national security guards unit to the state, shifted it to some other state," he complained.

"The attitude of the opposition has been of non-cooperation since the first day I took the oath, and they continue to be so till now. They did not extend support to the government on issues like shortage of fertilizers, classical status for Kannada, drive against terrorism, development initiatives etc “he lamented.

Yeddyurappa claimed that he had the experience of working in the opposition for long, but said he always behaved in a constructive and responsible manner. Criticisms are welcome, but the opposition needs to support us on issues of the state's interest, he added.  The state is lagging behind because of those who ruled the state in the past, he added.

"We have faced lot of injustice from the railway department. The government's programme of awakening the students has been unjustly branded as saffronization by the opposition," the CM rued.

To a question, he said the issue of arming the Lokayukta with more powers would be discussed, before taking a final decision.
