Bangalore, Mar 3: Umesh Krishnan (27) and Anne Marie (25), his wife of four months, were among the thousands of young migrant couples in the software sector who have made Bangalore their home. They moved into their new home in Nanjundappa Layout near Ramaswamy Palya in Banasawadi Police Station limits just a month ago.

Life took a horrifying turn when four robbers broke into their home on Monday and taped their face with packaging adhesive before escaping with valuables.

While Umesh died due to asphyxiation, Marie was injured. This incident occurred at around 4.30 a.m. on Monday. Umesh has been working with Infosys BPO for three years. He and Anna Marie, who were from Erode, Tamil Nadu, were married in October 2008.

In her statements to the police, Anne Marie said: “Around 4.30 a.m. the accused rang the calling bell. Umesh, who was in a deep sleep, got up and opened the door. The gang members overpowered him and forced their entry into the house.”

“They dragged him into a room and tied him to a cot. To silence him, they pasted tape all over his face, including his nose and mouth. “They were speaking Kannada. They tied me to the cot and covered my face with tape. However, I managed to free myself and alerted the neighbours,” Anne Marie told the police.

The Banasawadi police had gathered enough information about the accused and would arrest them within 36 hours, said Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari. The gang took away a mangala sutra, three gold rings and Rs. 3,500 in cash, altogether estimated at Rs. 40,000.
