Bengaluru, Apr 8: As the state high court has directed the state to implement the revised selection list of gazetted probationary officers posts for the year 1998 and thereafter, and file compliance report on April 15, seven IAS officers are likely to lose their positions as IAS cadre officers.

As per the revised Karnataka Public Service Commission list, 140 posts of officers may undergo changes. Eight Karnataka Administrative Service (assistant commissioner) officers are included among them. Among these officers, there are seven who got promoted to IAS cadre on the basis of service seniority in KAS cadre.

The department of personnel and administrative reforms (DPAR) has initiated the process of making changes in the cadres of officials. A meeting of senior officials was held in this connection on Friday April 5. There was no other option nut to begin the process as the high court needs a report of compliance, an official of the DPAR said.

The Union Public Service Commission had given promotions to 34 KAS officers based on their service seniority to IAS cadre in 1998, 1999, and 2004. When these promotions were given, the case about the appointments were in the high court and Supreme Court and when giving promotions, the condition that they would be subject to decisions of courts had been mentioned. Now seven officers are likely to lose their IAS tags when being shifted from their current grade of assistant commissioners.

Karnataka chief secretary, T M Vijay Bhaskar, said that the process of reviewing appointment as per the court judgement is being done and steps would be taken to fall in line with court orders before April 15.
