Mangalore, Mar 17:
‘Vishwa Konkani Mahila Dees’ was held at Don Bosco Hall as part of International Women’s Day on Monday March 16. The event was organized by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the programme, Vasanthi R Nayak, president, Swarashree Kalavedik, said that woman and man are two sides of the same coin.

“The co-ordination between the two is essential for a successful life. One cannot achieve anything in life without the support of someone,” she added.

Writer Padma Shenoy said that the message of International Women’s Day is to struggle against atrocities on women.

“Women have been confronted with problems for many years. Theses evils are symptoms of an unhealthy society. The government has established a separate women’s court for the speedy process of trials”, added Shenoy.

Former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas and Shakunthala R Kini from ‘Akashavani’ delivered a special lecture on the occasion.

Vandana Shanbhag, Kasturi Kamath, Vinnifred Fernandes, Deepali Kambadakone, and Catherine Rodrigues were felicitated by the Academy in recognition of their contribution to society.

Various competitions were also held for women on the occasion. Academy president K Narayan Kharvi, registrar S H Shivarudrappa, and Kasargod Chinna were also present.
