Mangalore, Mar 17: In an angry reaction to the death of a young lady, angry citizens attacked the house of a rickshaw driver named Rafiq, alleging that he had misbehaved and caused the death of a lady on Monday March 16.

Harinakshi (22), daughter of Kunhappa Gowda from Belloor near Badiyadka, had traveled to Sri Mahalingeshwara temple annual festival in Nettanige village in an autorickshaw driven by Rafiq. Even after she asked to be dropped at the main entrance to the said temple, he allegedly turned the rickshaw on Kinningal road and increased the speed of the vehicle. Growing panicky, Harinakshi jumped out, on to the road, sustained severe head injuries and died later in the hospital.

It is said that Harinakshi, during the period she met with the accident and before breathing her last, confessed that the rickshaw driver had misbehaved with her. The citizens had taken her to hospital in the same rickshaw.

Rafiq, who was to go to Gulf on Tuesday March 17, was handed over to the police station, where a case has been registered.  At the time of bringing Harinakshi's body home, citizens accompanying her body hurled stones at the home of Rafiq which is located on the way. Hindu outfits called for a bandh in Belloor panchayat limits as a mark of protest against the incident.

Why is no one bothered about this woman? Is it because she is from the majority community? If it was someone from a minority community, it might have become national news by now !!
