Mangalore: Council Approves Affiliation to Six New Colleges

Mangalore, Mar 18: The Academic Council of Mangalore University, in its meeting on Tuesday, approved the granting of the university’s affiliation to six new degree colleges for 2009-10.

The colleges are: Padu Tirupati Degree College, Karkala; Sri Rama First Grade College, Kalladkka; Rosario College of Management Studies, Mangalore; Western Institute of Technology, Kadri Hills, Mangalore; Jnana Bharati College, Mangalore; and Saint Reymonds College, Vamanjoor. Padu Tirupati Degree College proposes to offer B.Com course, and Sri Rama First Grade College will offer both B.Com and BBM courses. The Rosario College of Management Studies and the Western Institute of Technology will offer BBM course. The Jnana Bharati College will offer BCA course and Saint Reymonds College will offer BA, B.Com and BBM courses.

The council did not agree on granting affiliation to the MBA course proposed to be introduced by the Srinivas College of Hotel Management, Mangalore . This was based on a report by the local inquiry committee of the university.

The report said that the college’s campus at Pandeshwar did not have the additional space and other infrastructure to start the new course.

Yakshagana centre

The council approved the setting up of an endowment for the establishment of a Yakshagana study centre on the university campus at Mangalagangotri.

Vice-Chancellor of the university K.M. Kaveriappa, who presided over the meeting, said that Syndicate member of the university Dayanand Pai and his brother Sathish Pai had come forward to donate Rs. 1 crore towards establishing the centre. They had already donated Rs. 20 lakh as the first instalment. The centre would have a director besides other staff members, he said.

Additional posts

The draft statute for creating additional posts of Deputy Registrar and equivalent posts at various branches of the university was approved. Accordingly, the university proposed to create three additional posts of Deputy Registrar, one each at the offices of the Registrar (administration) and Registrar (evaluation), and the Finance Officer A draft statute for the establishment of a postgraduate department of social work on the university campus was also approved.
