Vijay Kumar Shetty has been  elected as the deputy district governor of city Lions district 324 D 1 for the year 2009-2010 with a big margin.  He represents Prashant Nagar Lions Club here.
 
Vijay Kumar Shetty is the son of Bellaru Sadashiv N Shetty and Girija Shetty couple, residents of Manipal – Manipura, in Udupi district.  He is one from among the community of Bunts to have risen to such coveted post.
 


He had developed leadership qualities since his early student-life while he served as the  student leader at K L E Nijalingappa College, here during 1982-1985.  He also bagged championship in shot-put in the  state level sports competitions held here during 1985.  He had bagged gold in long jump competitions at the inter-collegiate sports meet held at Bangalore University.  He had also bagged gold in state-level weight lifting competitions.  He served in NCC army wing during his student-life.
 
Vijay Kumar Shetty is an engineering graduate  and owns Sri Shivagiri Constructions engaged in interior decoration, designing and consulting.  He resides at Chandra Layout of Vijay Nagar, here with his wife Dr Jyoti Shetty and children Moulya and Nesar.
 
He is the brother of Uday Shetty, winner of Chatrapati Shivaji award and national weight lifting champion who resides at Ashok Bhavan, Borivali, Mumbai. Vijay Kumar was a resident of Mumbai in the past.
