Udupi: B G Achar Takes Charge of Manipal Police Station Again

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Mar 19: B G Achar has taken over charge of Manipal police station again on Wednesday March 18.

It may be recalled that Achar was in charge of this police station for about 15 months, when he was transferred. He had approached the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT), alleging that he was transferred prematurely because of the pressure brought on the state chief minister by local MLA Raghupati Bhat. He had alleged that Bhat was unhappy, as he did not entertain the MLA’s advice to manhandle Atul Rao, who was arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of Padmapriya, Bhat's wife.

Even after the KAT cancelled his transfer orders, Achar continued to work at Chamarajnagar where he was posted. Recently, an inspector named H R Kulkarni, posted to his place, had sought to quash the KAT orders by approaching the High Court. The state High Court had slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kulkarni, for not naming Raghupati Bhat as a respondent thereby giving indication that his intention was malafide. During the hearing in the case, the government had clarified that it did not plan to question the order of the KAT in the High Court.
