Udupi, Mar 20: Dr Sripad Bhat will be awarded with the 'Suvarna Ranga Samman’ at Kantavar Jinaraj Hegde Memorial auditorium on Friday March 27 at 3 pm.
The event is being jointly organized by Kannada and Cultural department, Bharath Co-operative bank, Mumbai and Gokarnanath Co-operative Bank, Mangalore.
The award has been instituted in the name of Swarna Kamal award winner and veteran artiste Sadanand Suvarna, said Dr N Mogasale, working president, Kantavara Kannada Sangh, speaking on the occasion.
Dr Siddalinga Pattanashetty, veteran writer and theatre personality, will preside over the function and confer the honour on Bhat.
Dr Sripad Bhat served as a teacher in Keroor High School and received doctorate for his research on the drama theatre of Uttar Kannada District, he said.
Apart from this, he established the theatre research centre at Sheshgiri village of Haveri district at an expenditure of Rs 50 lac. He worked as a mentor and guide for the street plays as well as theatre plays, said Mogasale.
The annual awards, instituted in 1979, are being given annually. The award comprises of Rs 10,000 in cash apart from felicitation, Mogasale informed.
