Udupi: Tulu Sahitya Academy Organizes International Women’s Day Celebrations

‘Tulu Ponjev Yenkulu’, the International Women’s Day celebrations, were held on Friday March 20 at Jana Kalyana Mantap, Yermal, near here. 

It was jointly organized by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Mangalore, and district Mahila Mandala Okkoota, under the aegis of Janardan Jana Kalyana Samiti, Yermal, and Sri Nidhi Mahila Mandal, Yermal.
 
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon inaugurated the programme.  Speaking on the occasion, he said that if at all Indian contemporary culture still thrives it is because of the women for they are excelling in every sphere through Stree Shakti self-helpvgroups. 

Mendon called on the women not to be lured by western culture and to instill Indian culture and values among their children. 
 
Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College head of department of Kannada Dr Niketan, in her keynote address said that it’s essential to learn much about globalization so as to safeguard native languages, tradition, and culture.

“It was thought that only education can change the future of students in the past but now due to commercialization of education and employment, globalization poses major challenges.  Society is facing hardships as globalization has posed challenges in imparting valued-added education and cultural upbringing.  The rise in numbers of suicides is attributed to the lack of will power in facing challenges of life”, she said.
 
Yermal Janardan temple trustee Ashokraj, Janardan Jana Kalyana Samiti convener Uday K Shetty, and Sri Nidhi Mahila Mandal president Jyoti Shetty were the chief guests.
 
Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar presided over the programme.
 
Retired physical training instructor Bhavanibai Bayiri was felicitated on the same occasion.
 
Sheela K Shetty welcomed the gathering while Dr Duggappa Kajekar proposed the vote of thanks while Ratnavati J Baikady compered the programme.
