Bangalore: State to Get Additional Forces to Combat Terrorism

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Mar 21: Union home minister P Chidambaram announced here on Friday March 20, that the Special Forces Unit located in the state with strength of 100, will be upgraded into a contingent of   600 men by the month end. This is being done to arm the state government with enough power to ably face challenges that may be posed by terrorist activities, he added.

During a stop-over spanning for about three hours on his way to Chennai from Orissa, he held discussions on the issue with army personnel. The contingent will be fully trained in the use of modern arms, he informed.

To a question about the demand of the state government, later turned down by the centre, for the stationing of a National Security Guards unit here, Chidambaram said the current unit will be fully equipped to face terrorism challenges.

Home minister Dr Acharya has welcomed the above move of the home ministry.
