Udupi, Mar 21: The inaugural of state-level Twenty-20 cricket tournament was held at Mahatma Gandhi district auditorium of Ajjarakad here on Friday March 20.

The event was jointly organized by Ambalapady Kappettu South Star Friends and Udupi Cricket Association.

Dr G Shankar, president, G Shankar Family Trust, inaugurated the event.

Delivering the benedictory speech after inaugurating the programme, Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji asked the  youth not to neglect  indigenous sports like 'Goli', 'Lagori' etc., while giving importance to foreign sports like cricket.

MLA Raghupati Bhat presided over the function.

K Uday Kumar Shetty, president, South Star Friends, welcomed the gathering. Shivanarayan Aital compered the programme.

Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Dinakar Shetty Herga, town municipal president, B Jayakar Shetty Indrali, general manager, Badagabettu Co-operative Society, Jayaprakash Kedlaya, lawyer, Sandalwood Film star Akash, Purushottam P Shetty, honorary president, South Star, B Sudhakar Shetty and Ramanand Shetty, secretary were present on the occasion.
