The Udupi Power Corporation’s failure in giving any compensation or land to the residents of Yermal in exchange for providing land for the construction of the Nagarjuna Power Plant, has led to the locals forcing contractors to halt work on Saturday March 21.

The residents had previously protested against the contractors and forced them to leave the place on Monday February 23.

Later, Nagarjuna officials Girish and others urged the tahsildar to sanction the order to continue the construction. They presented a paper with signatures of the residents regarding their approval. But the tahsildar who spoke to the land owners and ordered that the construction work be suspended temporarily.

The protest was held under the leadership of Vasant V Salian, former minister, Yermalu Uday K Shetty and Yermalu Beedu Ashok Raj.

R I Satyanand Shetty, Vasanti, secretary, gram panchayat, Yermal Tenka, and Mohan Kottari, station officer, were present on the occasion.
