Udupi: Lokayukta Traps Village Accountant for Accepting Bribe

The Lokayukta police arrested a village accountant for allegedly accepting bribe through a helper for providing an income certificate at Beloor village of Kundapur on Saturday March 21.

Krishnamurty, village accountant, had allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 as bribe to provide the income certificate to Shobha Kulal, Gullady, Kundapur, required for the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme.

Kulal had submitted the form for the certificate on Friday March 6 and was told to collect it after three days from the accountant’s office at Beloor.

When Kulal reached the accountant’s office on Tuesday March 17, Krishnamurty refused to issue the income certificate. He said that income certificate cannot be given as he could not change the income to Rs 11,000.

Kulal explained that they earned a living as labourers and Krisnamurty demanded Rs 1,000 to give the appropriate certificate. B Shekar Mogera, helper, was told to take the signed income certificate by paying the money demanded by the accountant.

Following the complaint, Beliyappa, inspector, Udupi Lokayukta station, arrested Krishnamurty and Mogera on Saturday.

Dr Prabhudev B Mane, sub-inspector, police staff C Shobha, Ramachandra Bhat, Diwakar J Suvarna, P C Jos, Santhosh, and Sridhar G, conducted the investigation.
