Udupi, Mar 24:
The district office of the Communist Party of India (CPI), located at New Vyavahar Complex, Maruthi Veethika here, was inaugurated at 10.00 am on Monday march 23.

Former MLA B V Kakkillaya inaugurated the CPI district office on Monday morning.  Speaking at the occasion, Kakkillaya said that the municipal council here had CPI members till the recent past.  CPI as a party was functioning efficiently. But, it saw gradual decline in its popularity owing to the internal bickering within the ranks of party.  However, the party has been again rejuvenated to work efficiently for the welfare of wage earners and working classes, he stated.

CPI Karnataka state secretary Dr Siddana Gowda Patil inaugurated the public meeting held later at Town Hall, here on Monday March 23 morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Patil said that the people of the coastal districts are fed up by the recent phenomenon of moral policing and communal violence. The working class should get united under the banner of CPI, Kakkillaya advised. He also asked the party to to set up CPI offices, like in the  district headquarters,  also in every taluk to strengthen the party and to stage struggles for the rights of the people.

A third front has been formed with the coming together of CPI, CPI (M) and JDS to contest in Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency while the candidature of Radha Sundaresh has been already confirmed.  NDA that came into power at the centre during 1999 Lok Sabha Polls, tried to divide the country by engineering communal violence across the nation.  As Vajpayee-led NDA government supported MNCs, CPI allied with Congress to face the polls.  Congress-led UPA government also joined hands with the MNCs and capitalists thereby disregarding the working class.  Both BJP and Congress are bagging the votes on the strength of communalism but with the façade of secularism respectively.  Both parties were known to misuse the administration for their selfish needs. BJP and Congress favour only the rich and elite Indians and have failed to safeguard the interests of the wage earners and the working class.  Owing to this factor, about 9 – 10 parties have collectively formed a Third Front to face the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.  Third Front will play decisive role in forming the government by keeping Congress and BJP away rom the power corridors, he declared.

Meanwhile, Dr Patil urged the working class to strive to remove the tentacles of communalism from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.  Religious heads of Maths seem to be in favour of the BJP, instead of leading by example by working for the peace and harmony in the region, he criticized.

CPI national council member P V Lokesh, Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha candidate Radha Sundaresh, B Amjad, P Sanjeev, B K Krishnappa, Vishwanat Nayak, H K Ramachandrappa, Hanumantappa, Nagabhushana Rao, Surendra, Raju Poojary, Vittal Shetty, Mamata and others were present at the occasion.

The programme was presided over by CPI district secretary Sanjeev Sheregar.

Satish Kumar compered the programme
