Mangalore, Mar 24:
As women voters continue to outnumber men in Mangalore parliamentary constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to aggressively woo them in its eight units in the district.

For the first time, the BJP will organize women’s conferences in all eight units of Mangalore constituency. The first conference will be conducted in Sullia on Tuesday March 24.

Addressing media persons at the election office here on Monday March 23, Monappa Bhandary, president, district committee of BJP, said that the prime reason for organizing the conference is to attract women voters towards the party. About 4,000 women expected to participate in the conference.

Bhandary added that BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel had already completed the first round of the tour programme in all the units. State president DV Sadananda Gowda led the campaign in Puttur, Bantwal, and Sullia.

In reply to a query, he said that about 800 development programmes were taken up by Sadananda Gowda during his tenure.

Bhandary said that the train service from Bangalore to Mangalore, and obtaining classical status for Kannada were yields of the MP’s effort.

However, he could not give a satisfactory reply when asked why the three major district roads-Uppinangady to Guruvayanakere, Uppinangady to Subramanya, and Puttur to Subramanya—were not asphalted during the BJP’s tenure in the constituency.

MLA Yogish Bhat, and Prathap Simha were present at the press meet.
