Mangalore, Mar 26:
The roof of a bathroom and the rented house it belonged to was gutted in a fire near Kuloor on Kavoor road.

The bathroom was a separate unit close to the house.

The fire originated in the ‘ole’ or the traditional heater used to heat the water in the bathroom. The incident occurred at the house of Walter D’Souza.

The fire spread to the wood and coconut leaves stored in the bathroom caused the fire to flare up and led to the roof blowing up.

Walter said that the fire had been kindled in the bathroom as always but was a little stronger than usual as dry coconut leaves had been used. The wood stored above the heater caused the roof to burn.

The loss has been estimated at around Rs 50,000 and no injuries have been reported.

The fire brigade from Kadri fire station arrived on the pot and managed to get the fire under control.
