Puttur, Mar 26: In a fire accident that occurred at the 5 MVA power transformer located in the 33 KV sub-station of Mescom located in Kumbra near here on the night of Tuesday March 24, the transformer was destroyed, as a result of which Mescom is faced with a loss of about Rs 45 lac.
At around 9.15 pm on Tuesday, the fire appeared in the transformer all of a sudden. Fire brigade and Mescom officials were alerted by the night shift employees immediately. The fire brigade tried to control the fire. As a result of this incident, power supply to various parts of the taluk was disrupted.
The transformer will become operational only after it and some electric parts located in its proximity which are also destroyed, are replaced, Mescom officials said.
