Bangalore: Ananth Kumar Files Nomination - has No Big Assets



Bangalore, Mar 31: Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar, who was Minister for Urban Development in the A.B. Vajpayee Government, hardly has any big cash deposit in banks nor does he own any big immoveable asset as made out in the affidavit submitted to the election authorities here on Monday.

Ananth Kumar is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the Bangalore South seat, which he has won the last four times.

The affidavit filed before the Returning Officer for Bangalore South has been sworn to before an advocate and notary based here. He has also stated that there was no case pending against him in any court.






Of the three motor vehicles that he and his family own are a Reva electric car bought in 2005 in his name and a Kinetic Honda scooter (2002 model) and a Hyundai Accent car (2003 model) in the name of his wife Tejaswini Ananth Kumar.

Barring a one-third share in an ancestral house located at Indira Colony, Hubli, worth Rs. 6.34 lakhs, he also does not own any immoveable asset, be it a house or agricultural land.

Ananth Kumar has said he has cash of Rs. 50,000. His wife has cash of Rs. 1 lakh, and of his two daughters, Aishwarya and Vijeta, the former had Rs. 50,000. The total cash deposits in banks in his name are Rs. 5.23 lakh and that of his wife Rs. 7.77 lakh.

In contrast, the assets in his wife’s name were worth much more. She has 50 per cent share in an agricultural property (six acres and 21 guntas) at Chebbi village, Hubli, with a market value of around Rs. 4.63 lakh, a residential site (30 X 35 ft) at HAL third stage, valued at Rs. 31.50 lakh and an ancestral residential property at Hubli valued Rs. 21.72 lakh.

Ananth Kumar has 50 gm gold jewellery consisting of rings and chains valued at Rs 73,700, while his wife has 750 gm of gold jewellery valued at over Rs. 11 lakh, apart from 10 kg of silver articles valued at Rs. 2.22 lakh.

His two children have 250 gm of gold and five kg of silver articles, totally valued at Rs. 2.22 lakh.

Tejaswini Ananth Kumar also has nearly 20 insurance policies, wherein a one-time premium of around Rs. 25 lakh has been paid, while Mr. Ananth Kumar has insurance policies for around Rs. 6 lakh.

Interestingly, Ananth Kumar has claimed a reimbursement of telephone charges, Rs 4.85 lakh, from the Union Government.
