Beltangady, Apr 1: An Environmentalists' Union was formed at a meeting held at Beltangady for the purpose, recently.

The meeting was convened by the members of Lions Club and various other organizations of taluk.

The union was formed with the aim of striving for taking up cleanliness drive across the taluk and achieving the distinction of being a 'Clean Taluk,' by finding scientific solutions for the problem of waste disposal.

Sylvester D’Souza, Dakshina Kannada Environmentalists Union secretary, presided over the meeting.

Santosh Kumar Jain was elected as the president of Union, while Wilfred Arun was elected as its secretary. Ravindranath Gowda became its vice-president, M Damodhar Bhat was chosen joint secretary and Shobha as treasurer.

Dharanendra Kumar Jain, Namadev, Vishweshwara Shetty, Herbert, Timmappa and others were elected as the members of the newly formed union.
