Bantwal, May 13: A pile of paddy is grown in the fields which were once barren here. When young boys and girls were playing in the fields, they did not imagine that such a change would be possible here.

This is the story of the Kambala fields of Bakilaguthu kin, Anantadi village, Bantwal which have been transformed from their idle state.

A Koti Chennaya slush fields sports tournament was held here on December 23, 2018 under the aegis of Yuvavahini central committee, Mani in association with Brahmashree Narayanaguru Guru Seva Sangha. 33 Yuvavahini unit members including those from Dakshina Kannada and Bengaluru jumped and danced in the slush fields.

Yuvavahini did not lose the attachment to the fields after a day’s tournament. Unit president Harish Poojary Bakila, office bearers and members decided to take up cultivation in the field. Thereafter on obtaining permission from elders, enthusiastic cultivation took place in the field. Seeds sown by Yuvavahini members grew into saplings.

After harvest, sixty bundles of paddy were collected. The paddy was harvested on Sunday April 28 in the presence of 45 people.

Yuvavahini central committee president Jayanth Nadubailu set the work in motion. Shasidhar Kinnimajalu, Bantwal unit vice president Sathish Bayila, Bakila family’s Janardhan Poojary, Vasanth Poojary Jalligudde, Harish NMPT joined them. Mani unit former president Rajesh Babanakatte, secretary Sujith Anchan, vice president Ramesh Mujala, Prashanth Punjavu, treasurer Shivaraj P R, convener Rajesh Peraje and Mahabala Poojary Bakila were present.

Yuvavahini Mani unit decided to donate paddy received after harvest to the poor and supply meals to Ullalthi Vaidyanath and Brahmakalashotsava.
