Kundapur, May 13: “A person will remain in the minds of people if we walks on the path of justice and donates a part of his earnings to noble work. Our service to the weak in the vicinity is greater than the service of almighty,” said Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty.

He was speaking in a programme ‘Kalpavraksha’ held in memory of late Subrahmanya Manja in the leadership of M S Manja charitable trust.

“Hyderabad hotelier Krishnamurthi Manja and brothers have started a trust in the name of their late father and extend monetary help to the sick, education, religious programme, artistes and weddings of poor girls. The society prospers out of educational help,” he said.



Mother Vishalakshiamma inaugurated the programme. Trust president, entrepreneur Krishnamurthi Manja presided over the programme. Local elite were present as guests of honour.

Nempu Narasimha Bhat was awarded Vaidika Ratna award for his service in religion, Vandse panchayat president Udaya Kumar Shetty was awarded Sevarathna award for social work and Yakshagana artiste Koppate Mutta Gowda was awarded Kala Rathna award. Naga Yakshi Patri Hilkodu Sridhar Manja who received doctorate recently was felicitated.

Trust secretary, retired principal G Subrahmanya Udupa Kokkarne gave an introductory address. Trust honorary president Maranakatte Sridhar Manja welcomed.

Chittoor high school headmaster Jagadish Shetty, Chittoor higher primary school headmaster Ananda Shetty. Aloor higher primary school headmaster Shashidhar Shetty, Prerana youth organization’s Nagaraja Shetty Naikambali read letters of felicitation. Chittoor higher primary school physical education teacher Balakrishna Shetty read a list of those who received monetary help from the trust. H M M Byndoor teacher Sri Lakshmi proposed vote of thanks. Journalist Chittoor Prabhakar Acharya compered the programme.

Well known Bharatha Natya artiste from Hyderabad, Udupi district Rajyotsava award winner Amoolya Manja performed Bharatha Natya. Kedoor Ramakrishna Bayari showed magic show. Kaladhara Yaksha Balaga and guests artistes staged ‘Magadha’ Yakshagana play after 9 pm.
