Bhatkal, May 14: Three lifeless bodies were found to have been lying on the seashore at Kopparamakki, Manki near Honnavar in the early hours of Monday May 13.

The mortal remains belonged to a woman aged between 35 and 40, as well as two girls, once aged about nine to ten years, and another aged six to eight years. Bhatkal deputy superintendent of police suspected this to be a case of suicide as the two children appear to have jumped into the sea after tying their hands together.

There were no clothes on the woman's body. The people say that no woman likes to lay bare her body and she would not have undressed herself before jumping into the sea. Even if it is assumed that the cloth she was wearing was used to tie the hands together, if they wanted to end life, they would have brought some additional clothes with them for the purpose, they argue. The people wonder what misfortune would have befallen the family so as to take this extreme step. Some also guess that the woman could have been raped and then tossed into the sea to mislead the policemen.
