Raichur, May 14: In connection with the appearance for B Com second semester degree examination of Gulbarga University from a home in the city, the JMFC first additional court has granted conditional bail to 38 students. Two have however been remanded to judicial custody.
Some students had appeared for the second semester B Com examination of Gulbarga University at a home at IDSMT Layout here on Sunday May 12. Acting on reliable information, officials of the vigilance squad had raided the spot, and collected question papers, hall tickets and answer sheets from the candidates there. On the basis of complaint filed by the squad in the city (west) police station, case under section 420 of Indian Penal Code was registered.
Students of vivekananda college, D K Bhandary college and Jnanaganga college had appeared for the examination from the said house. The brain behind the entire operation, Pawan Kumar, who is the head of New Chaitanya College, main accused,Niranjan, and 38 others including girl students were taken into custody.
After the health of students was checked at Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, they were produced in the JMFC first additional judge at midnight. As the parents of the students pleaded with the judge to show lenience taking into account the future of the young students, judge, Avinash, sanctioned them conditional bail after they executed bonds. Pawan Kumar and Niranjan were denied bail.
A team led by Gulbarga University vice chancellor,Prof S R Niranjan, visited three colleges, Vivekananda, D K Bhandary and Jnanaganga, and gathered information. The team also visited city (west) police station to collect information, before leaving. The vice chancellor has ordered to shift the examination centres allotted to these three colleges. Candidates whose examination centre happens to be D K Bhandary college have been asked to shift to MEM College, Jnanaganga college students have been changed to BRB College, while Vivekananda College students have been asked to appear for examination at the government first grade college, it is learnt.;
Vice chancellor of the university, Prof S R Niranjan, said that the entire issue would be investigated in detail and people and institutions found guilty would face action without any leniency. He noted that continuing with his efforts to stop irregularities since the four years, cluster system had been introduced in the entire state for the first time during this year to make sure that the students of a single college should not together appear for examination at a single centre. He said that the investigation will also find out how the answer sheets and question papers reached the students and how they were allowed to appear for the examination from a place other than the centre allotted to them.
