Kasargod, May 17: Two including a lady lost their lives, and seven others suffered injuries of varying degrees, after a jeep in which they were travelling went out of the control of the driver and hurtled down the roadside gorge at around 8 pm on Thursday May 16.

As the nature of injuries suffered by two among them are of serious nature, they stand admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.

The jeep deviated from the road and fell when negotiating the road bend at Karicheri in Chattanchal. Sharada (68), wife of the late Kunhambu from Pallanji, and her son, Sudheer (42), died in the accident. Sudheer's son, Niranjan (7) and relative, Suresh, were admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.

Jeep driver, Ranjith (28),and passengers, Chandraika (33), shivaraj (15), Vismaya (13) and Suneetha were admitted to E K Nayanar cooperative hospital at Chengala as they had suffered relatively minor injuries.

The locals who rushed to the spot of accident helped those who were trapped inside to come out. Although they immediately transported the injured to Nayanar hospital, by then two had breathed their last.

The jeep was bringing back family members who were returning after attending a marriage function of a relative at Poinachi Paramb. The jeep was exhaustively mangled in the accident.
