Bengaluru, May 18: Amid the heat of election battle that has seen political discourse plunge to new lows every day, a birthday wish from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his political rival has come as a brief respite.

JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda is celebrating his 86th birthday on Saturday May 18.

On the occasion, PM Modi took to Twitter early morning on Saturday to wish Deve Gowda a happy birthday.

"Best wishes to our former Prime Minister Shri HD Deve Gowda Ji on his birthday. I pray for his long and healthy life (sic)" he tweeted.
