Mangalore, Apr 16: “The coastal region has been plunged into darkness because of the activities of the Sangh Parivar and its ideology”, said Pattabhirama Somayaji in a programme held at St Aloysius College hall by ‘Bandahvaya’, People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), and the Karanataka Komu Sauharda Vedike on Wednesday April 15.
“The backward communities and minorities are being targeted everywhere in an effort to implement the agenda of the Sangh Parivar. The attacks on churches, pub attack, and attacks on minorities are all forms of implementation of their agenda. This can also be called mass violence”, he said.
The programme was on the topic ‘When Will There Be an End to the Insecure and Unstable Life of Dalits, Minorities, and Backward Communities?’
“Golwalkar, considered the leader of the Sangh Parivar wrote in a book that only Hindus should live in India, whereas others should quit or live as third class citizens without getting any facilities from the government”, said Somayaji adding that minorities, Dalits, and backward communities are suffering and being victimized to reach their goal.
Sr Selma and Dr Sabiha Bhoomegowda released books on reports of violence, ‘The Ugly Face of Sangh Parivar’, and ‘A Report on the Attacks on Christians in Orissa and Karnataka’.
A documentation of violence in Mangalore in September 2008 was also presented during the programme. ‘Samatha’ team presented a song-based drama on violent issues.
John Fernandes, chairman, chair in Christianity of Mangalore University, welcomed all. Alwyn Kulaso read his poem on awareness as prayer.
K L Ashok, president, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, and Dr Sabhiha Boomegowda also spoke in the programme.
P B D’Sa, district president, PUCL, presented a summary while Sr Mishel gave the vote of thanks. Ida D’Souza compered the programme.
