Mangalore, Apr 16:
The newly-formed Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Sangatanegala Okkoota will organize a protest rally on Friday April 17 condemning the murder of advocate Naushad Kashimji.

Addressing media persons at a press conference held at Hotel Woodlands, Zameer Ambar, convener of the Okkoota, said that the rally will start from Ambedkar Circle near Jyothi and conclude in front of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office.

A condolence meet will also be held following the rally. Human rights activist and journalist Teesta Setalvad of Mumbai will inaugurate the rally.

Ambar claimed that the murder of Kashimji is not merely the assassination of an advocate but a threat to the Indian Constitution and the judiciary.

He urged that the people of this region should show their strength in order to confront this challenge and the case should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Umar U H, a member of the Okkoota, added that they were skeptical about the police investigation. He added that the investigation of the murder case should be handed over to other police officials.

Senior lawyer Puroshottham Poojary had doubted the involvement of the four police officers heading the team.

Umar said that about 20,000 people were expected to participate in the silent rally. K M Sharif, Saeed Ismail, Muhammadh Kunhi, Rafiuddin Kudroli, Saaduddin Saalih, Anwar Saadath, and D M Aslam were present.
