Mangalore, Apr 19: The feast of Divine Mercy was celebrated with fervour at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte, here on Sunday April 19.

The adoration and Mercy rosary was followed by the festal Holy Mass at 5.30 pm on Sunday.

Bendore St Sebastian’s parish priest Fr Peter Noronha celebrated the solemn Eucharistic Mass, along with United Kingdom clergy Fr Lawrence, Carmel Hill Infant Jesus Shrine in-charge Fr Nelson Pinto and vocation director Fr Deepak.

A large number of faithful attended the service.

The new form of devotion to Mercy of God has its origin in certain events in Poland from 1931–38.  Jesus appeared to Sr Paustina many times during this period and wanted the Mercy Novena to be observed from Good Friday to the Sunday after Easter.

Pope John Paul II recommended the Mercy devotion.
