Udupi: Woman complains to court about harassment, life threat by husband

Udupi, May 28: Sumaira (29), a resident of Laxminagara in Tenkanidiyur here has filed complain in the court, accusing his husband and his family members of meting out harassment to her and posing death threats.

Sumaira has said in her complaint that she had fallen in love with Israr Ahmed and married him as per the tenets of Islam on July 8, 2018. Her parents had given 20 sovereigns of gold and spent eight lac rupees towards marriage expenses. Once she joined her husband's family, she said she began to suffer harassment at the hands of her husband and his family members. She said her ring was forcibly taken away and family members, Tanseera, Nissar Ahmed, Sambreena and Shabana tortured her and used abusive language to her. When the neighbours tried to broker peace, the family members rebuked them, she said.

The complaint also mentions that Israr Ahmed left Sumaira back at the house of her parents besides posing threat to her life. On the basis of private complaint filed by her in the court, a case against her husband and his family members stands registered in the women's police station here.
