Udupi, Apr 24: Lakshmish Bhandary (29) from Manjeshwar, Kasargod, who had been caught about a month and a half back while trying to rob Syndicate Bank Nandikoor branch, succeeded in escaping from the hospital cell in the government hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, on Thursday April 23.

He had been admitted to hospital after he complained of heartburn and chest pain on April 18. Reportedly, he escaped by locking the prison cell of the District Government Hospital here when the police personnel and another prisoner Suresh Shetty were inside.

The policeman came out by breaking open the glass door. The policemen got information that he had been seen standing by the side of Maitri Complex near the service bus stand here. By the time the policemen reached there, he had been gone.

Sniffer dogs made a few visits in the town before abandoning efforts. The station house officer has informed that the under-trial prisoner was 5'5" tall, wore blue shirt and grey trousers. There was a bandage on his right hand, for administering injections. People having information about him have been asked to contact the town police station here, on telephone No. 2520444.
