Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, May 2: Complaints and counter complaints were filed against each other by the workers belonging to the Congress and BJP, relating to the lethal assault at late night on Thursday April 3 on a woman of Tamil Colony in Bellare village in the taluk.

Ambuja, sister of Ramaswami, in a complaint filed with the policemen said, BJP activists Pudkaje Gangadhar Rai, Danan, Subrahmanya, Soorya, Mohan, Kunhi, Joseph and others assaulted Malarkudi (26), wife of Ramaswami, who is a Congress worker and car driver. When the injured was brought for being admitted in to Sullia government hospital, a friction arose between the Congress and BJP workers who had gathered there.

At the same time, BJP activist Danan complained that the Congress workers had assaulted him.  Speaking at a press conference here on Friday May 1, Block Congress president Bharat Mundody accused the BJP activists of indulging in violence because of the frustration of getting defeated in election. He said, that the BJP workers had threatened gram panchayat member Jalajakshi for foiling an attempt made by people to cast fake votes in Panja in favour of the BJP. Eshwarappa Harladka of the BJP beat up Congress workers in Narnakaje village, he added. The BJP activists were angry with Ramaswami for his involvement in Congress campaigning, he reasoned.

Leaders Venkappa Gowda, Nityanand Mundody, P C Jayaram and others were present at the press conference.

In another press conference, BJP block president A V Teertharam accused the Congress activists of beating up the BJP activist Danan as the Congress party has lost hope of winning this Lok Sabha seat. When Danan was brought to Sullia hospital, Congress workers blocked him and assaulted BJP workers, he added. He also said Malarkudi was injured when Kumar, younger brother of Ramaswami tried to hit Ramaswami and Danan too was injured then.

BJP leaders Venkat Dambekody, S N Manmatha, Tangavelu, Shekhar and others were present at the press conference.
