Mumbai, Jun 9: Ever heard about cops stopping a cloth sale because the crowd is unmanageable? The incident happened in Gajanan Market in Ulhasnagar.

Police had to stop a week-day sale of sarees in a shop named Rang Creation in Gajanan Market after hundreds of women reportedly turned up on Saturday. The owner of the shop Ashwin Sakhare was selling sarees which cost him Rs 90 for a throw away price of Rs 10. The offer was so popular that the local police had to intervene on the fourth day of the sale as they feared a law and order problem.

As reported in TOI, the owner of the shop said, "Since we earn money from customers for the entire year, as a social welfare move, I decided to give some sarees from my profit to customers, which cost Rs 90 for only Rs 10."  Sakhare said he had started the sale on June 5 and it got so popular that on Saturday morning he and his staff found it difficult to handle the crowd. They requested customers to stand in a queue but when police learned about the huge line outside the shop, they rushed to the spot. When they found many customers were senior citizens and they were having arguments with each other, police requested Sakhare to cancel the offer. Despite the announcement by the shopkeeper and police, the crowd went berserk and refused to budge, so police had to close the shop for the day.

Sakhare said he sold over 2,000 sarees for Rs.10 each in four days. A customer from Ambernath, Janabhai Jadhav who had gone for the sale said "After waiting for two hours, when my turn came, police and the shopkeeper closed the shop. My neighbour bought a saree." Another customer said she bought seven sarees, of which she got one for Rs 10, while the others were from Rs70-120 at the shop.
