B'lore, May 7: The policemen guarding the strong room located in Gudleppa Hallikeri College belonging to the KLE Society in Haveri district were in for a tricky situation. On the night of Tuesday May 5, they heard persistent mews from inside the strong room, where the electronic voting machines (EVM) pertaining to the recent Lok Sabha election were stored.

After hearing the sounds for long, the bewildered policemen reported the same to the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district P S Vastrad, who also happens to be the District Election Officer.  The DC then brought the same to the notice of the state commission as well as the Election Commission of India, seeking their instructions.

After getting instructions from the Central Election Commission, the issue was brought to the notice of the Lok Sabha candidates and the strong room doors were opened on Wednesday at around 5.45 pm in the presence of the assistant election officer, candidates, agents of some of the candidates etc. They found five furry kittens playing inside.

The deputy commissioner confirmed that the kittens had not damaged any of the EVMs. It is not yet clear as to how the kittens got inside, but it is strange but true that these little cuties brought the officials concerned to their knees, giving them anxious moments.
