Mangalore: NMPT Polytechnic Students Invent Power Producing Equipment

Mangalore, May 8: The students of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) Polytechnic have developed an innovative power producing technology.

The team of final year electrical and electronics students of NMPT Polytechnic have invented the equipment that is to be implemented beneath the road.

“The equipment consists of a hump placed on the ground. When vehicles move along the hump, movement takes place which leads to generation of heat. This heat is then converted into electricity”, said Ramesh, the team leader.

“The power generated through this equipment can be stored and even used for street lights. The purpose of the invention is to collect and reuse the energy obtained during motion, which otherwise would go waste”, he added.

Rakesh Pinto, Rajesh N, Rajesh Kumar, and Ranjit Shetty, are the other members of the team.
“The model which produces 12 volts of electricity has been made at an expense of Rs 7,000.  The redesigning of the equipment methodically will drastically decrease the production price, but it requires sufficient space”, added Ramesh.

J J Pinto, principal, Dhavala Keerti, head of the department, Narohna Tarina Pinto, Harish Tantri, Purandara Acharya, and Surendra Kawa, supported the students in their achievement.
