Tight Security for President Irks Public

Sringeri, May 11: General public faced lot of inconvenience owing to the tight security imposed for the security purpose in the backdrop of President Prathibha Patil’s visit to Sringeri on Sunday. 

The movements of vehicles were banned on the main streets of the town.

The movement of two wheelers were also banned on Bharathi street. As a result, the street wore a deserted look and created a feeling of voluntary bundh. An ASI who did not possess any pass and without uniform got the taste of lathi for riding two wheeler on the street. 

As many as 600 police personnel were deployed to Sringeri for the security purpose. As a result, all the lodges were full and the tourists who visited Sringeri were struggling to get lodging facility. Since the entry to Sri Mutt was banned till the exit of President, thousands of tourists were made to wait for the darshan for several hours. Even the employees of Sri Mutt were given passes to enter the mutt. The local journalists were also made to wait outside the mutt. Owing to the ban on movement of vehicles, several couples had to go by walking to GSB kalyan mantap.
