Mangalore, May 11: The 31st annual general body meeting (AGM) and awards presentation ceremony of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® was held on Sunday May 10, at Bishop’s House Mangalore. President of Catholic Sabha presided. Rt Rev Dr Henry D Souza, the Bishop of Bellary was the chief guest.
Bishop called upon the Catholic Sabha members to build the organization on Christian values. He also urged them to build strong families, to train parish councils and to bring social awareness not only among the Catholics but also among all the communities without caste or creed discrimination. He also asked the Catholic Sabha members to mingle with the members of Barjrang Dal and other Hindutva organizations.
The following annual awards were presented by the Bishop.
1. Danthi memorial award to Yashvanth D S for his Kannada poetry book, Tutu-Muttu'.
2. Social Service award to Shirthady William Pinto
3. Manasa special award to Remedia D Souza, managing trustee Manasa.
4. Catholic Sabha special award for outstanding contribution through Catholic Sabha to Valerian Menezes Kota.
Catholic Sabha Silver Jubilee scholarships were awarded to Clinton Rodrigues, Gurpur, Lavita Crasta Bambil, Marlin Mathias Shirva, Marvel D Souza Bajal, Marina Crasto Katpady, Matilda Fernandes Ajekar and Bhavisha Anna Valder Gurpur.
Prizes were also awarded for securing highest number of subsribers to 'Amcho Sandesh' monthly. Niddodi unit got first place from among the parish units, Kallianpur Varado among the Varados and Udupi Province among provinces. Spiritual director Fr Vincent Monteiro congratulated the outgoing office bearers.
Initially, president Lancy D’Cunha welcomed the gathering. Secretary Nigel Pereira proposed vote of thanks and Godwin Pinto compered the programme.
Later, the 31st AGM was held. After the AGM, the executive met and unanimously elected the following office bearers for the year 2009-10.
