Udupi, May 11:
The students of Manipal University (MU) will now be able to access the internet from any place on the campus, spread across a five  kilometre radius, at any time of the day following the installation of seamless Wi-Fi mesh network by D-VoiS Broadband Private Limited, Bangalore, stated their press release.

‘It is a self-sealing, self-adjusting network that enables the students to access internet, intranet and other value added applications any time, anywhere within the campus,’ said MU general services director retired Col Badrinarayanan.

MU is one of the premier Universities in the country, with over 20 constituent institutions. It has more than 12,000 students on the campus. The seamless Wi-Fi network at Manipal is perhaps one of the largest such networks in the country.  Spread across the length and breadth of the University campus, it covers all hostels, academic blocks, hotel, roads, food court etc.

As the University provides laptops to all its engineering and medical students, the user density of the network is very high.  It is estimated that more than 10,000 users connect to this network and the internet bandwidth would be in excess of 100 mbps.  The network is capable of handling more than 12000 users and can support streaming video applications to all its users.

D-VoiS has set up this network on a Build, Own and Operate model. The security, operation D-VoiS has rolled out its broadband services under its brand name I-On.  Users have experienced speeds of more than 2 mbps on the network.  Students can also access the University’s Local Area Network (LAN) applications including student information services, digital library etc.
