Beltangady, May 12: Speaking to reporters at Srirama Mandir of Nityanand Nagar, Kanyadi here on Monday May 11,  primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri informed, that about 7,000 teachers will be appointed for various primary and high schools, which are suffering from shortage of teachers, within the next two months.

The high schools will get about 3,000 teachers during this month itself, while the primary schools will be given 4,000 teachers in June. During this year, the government will not open any new high schools or pre university colleges, he clarified. However, the private sector has been permitted to open 100 new pre university colleges and in 60 existing government PU colleges, science and commerce departments will start functioning additionally, he explained.

The minister disclosed, the government is thinking in terms of bringing some changes in the SSLC examination process, in place of the current 60:40 ratio. Before June end, the members of the general public can give suggestions to the government either directly or through the officials of the department. By July end, the new education policy of the government will be spelt out.  A study will also be conducted on the reasons for the wide gap between the students performances in SSLC and PU classes. This might not be totally because of lack of infrastructure and facilities, he felt.

Former MLA Prabhakar Bangera requested the minister to open a high school at Periyottu of Kuvettu Barya village and Naravi. Sri Brahmananda Saraswati Swamiji honoured the minister on behalf of Kanyadi villagers.
