Byndoor, Jun 26: MP B Y Raghavendra, who paid a visit to Gangolli fishing port and the outer port areas of Maravanthe, inquired about the grievances and held a meeting with the officials and fishermen.

Raghavendra took a serious note of the grievance raised by the fishermen of Gangolli that the front portion of the jetty built in the Gangolli port is cracked in certain places. The pillars of the building where the fish is sold is also cracked and the building is in a precarious condition. In two months’ time the fishing season will start and the fishermen have to face anxious moments.

The MP questioned the concerned officers with regards to the action they have taken against the grievances of the fishermen. Giving the details of the action plan, T S Rathod, executive engineer of port and fisheries department said, "Rs 1.98 crore is sanctioned to rebuild the front portion of the jetty. The tender process of the project is already started. Expert contractors are required to carry out this work. This work can be started only after the end of Monsoon."

MP Raghavendra also paid visit to the break water and sea walk work as the fishermen complained of the work not being done properly and instructed the concerned officers to take corrective action.

Devadas Kharvi, B Raghavendra Pai and Surendra Kharvi sought the attention of the MP towards the bad condition of fisheries road. The residents of the locality, who met the MP on the way appealed him for the repair of the drain that is flowing nearby.

The MP expressed satisfaction over the work that is going on to protect the highway between Trasi-Maravanthe beaches with the aid of Asian Development Bank. The locals said that sea erosion is occurring at the south side of the present project and a similar protection wall needs to be built on the south side also. The MP instructed the concerned officer to consider their demand.

MP Raghavendra was welcomed to the outer port area of Maravanthe and felicitated by the fishermen. They brought to his attention the incomplete work of the port and the sea erosion that is taking place because of the same. The fishermen also requested the MP to raise the protection wall to further height of one meter in areas where the road has collapsed due to sea erosion. They also asked the MP to sanction alternative accommodation for six fishermen, whose houses are in danger of collapsing due to sea erosion. In addition, they also requested the repair of the coastal road, which is on the verge of extinction. The MP directed the concerned officer to note the grievances and take suitable action.

MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, local people representatives, superintendent engineer of port and fisheries department Manche Gowda, private secretary of leader of the opposition of legislative assembly Rajappa, Kundapur tahsildar Tippeswamy, Byndoor tahsildar Basappa Poojar and other officials were present.
