Puttur, Jun 28: In respect of a case in which tahsildar here, Dr Pradeep Kumar, was caught red-handed when accepting bribe, the third district and sessions court here, through an order passed on June 27, dismissed the bail application filed by the official.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau police had taken Dr Kumar into custody on the evening of June 20 from Kallimar near Parladka here. After he was questioned the same evening at the inspection bungalow here and taken into custody, he was produced before the judge at Mangaluru. He had been remanded to judicial custody by the judge for 15 days.

The judge who verified the bail application moved by Dr Pradeep Kumar through his lawyer, had concluded hearing on June 25 and reserved orders to June 27. The advocate for the accused had argued that there is no need to keep him in confinement as the money accepted as bribe had been confiscated by the officials. The public prosecutor argued that the official is influential and hence can influence the investigation in the case. The court upheld this argument and dismissed the bail petition.
