Udupi, Jun 29: “Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) will stage a protest on July 3 in front of taluk offices of Kaup, Brahmavar, Karkala and Udupi simultaneously, demanding saving of cattle breeds from extinction and proper implementation of the act on protection of cattle,” said Sunil K R, Regional coordinator of Bajrang Dal at the press club in the city.

Sunil was addressing the press on Saturday, June 29. He further said, “It is very clear that our stand is firm. There is no link to politics and Bajrang Dal. We are separate from all the political parties. We did not political benefits in the name of cow protection. We have decided to hand over an appeal to all the MLAs and MPs. Cattle trafficking and cow slaughter is happening in the district frequently. It hurts the religious feelings of the believers. Cattle trafficking is happening day and night without fear of law and order. This is also affecting peace and harmony.

"VHP and BD are non-political organizations and we have been fighting since many years against the cow slaughter. The state government always says that it is in favour of farmers and promoting diaries. It has to protect the cows also apart from promoting its products. A strong hidden power is trying to stop us from our intention.

“The concerned department and district administration must think seriously and take strict action against middlemen. There is a need to take precautionary measures. Our purpose is to make the society understand and also make the district administration understand about the seriousness of the issue and put pressure on them. The only official cow slaughtering center is located in Mangaluru. But there are 300 beef stalls. Around 10-11 cows can be used daily according to the law, but all are going against the law and running illegal beef shops. The Jokatte incident should not get repeated.

“‘The police department and district administration should be accountable in controlling the illegal cattle trafficking. The protest will continue in future too. The Hindu society is now awakened and stands by us. We are still hopeful that major changes will happen in order to protect the cows and exercise of related laws soon,” he said.

Pramod Mandarthi, district secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Dinesh Mendon, district convener, Bajrang Dal, Dinesh Shetty, Go Raksha Pramukh and Prakash Kukkehalli, general secretary, Hindu Jagarana Vedike were present.
