Mangaluru: Coastal region experiences good rainfall

Mangaluru, Jul 2: Different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received some rainfall on Monday evening. Puttur, Beltangady, Naravi, and the city got some rainfall. Udupi district too got rains in most of the places. Strong wind and rain were experienced at Hebri.

After a huge tree fell on a scrap shop behind a garage located on the road leading to Brahmavar from Kelapete in Hebri, the shop was completely destroyed. Owner of the shop, Raju Poojary, suffered injury to his head. He stands admitted into a hospital at Manipal.

Gerusoppa in Uttara Kannada district received ten cm rain during the day ended 8.30 am on Monday, which was highest in the state. Kollur got nine cm rainfall while Londa, Kumta and Honnavar in Uttara Kannada received seven cm each.

As catchment areas of River Sharavathi are receiving rain, there has been steady increase in the inflow into Lingamanakki reservoir. The water level reached 1,746.55 feet on Monday as against 1,773.2 feet recorded on this day last year. Excess water is being released through sluice gates, and the highest level in the dam is 1,819 feet.

The meteorological department said that most of the places in state's coast and many paces in northern interior Karnataka and some in south interior Karnataka will experience rain during the period till Wednesday morning.
