Bangalore: Fire at Home Kills Cop, Son

TNN

Bangalore, May 22: In a bizarre fire accident in KSRP quarters in Venkatapura near Madiwala, a KSRP constable and his youngest son died on Thursday night.

The incident took place at Mohanappa's residence in the first floor of S1 block, Tunga complex in KSRP quarters at 7 pm. According to neighbours, Mohanappa (45), a driver with the excise department, was stocking petrol at his house. The house caught fire when he was transferring the petrol from one can to another, holding a candle, as there was no power.

Mohanappa was in the hall and his wife Madhu was at the kitchen when the incident took place. The couple's four kids, Sachin (18), twins Asha and Usha (14) and Srinath (8) were also present.

As soon as the fire engulfed the whole house, Madhu managed to escape and call for help. Mahesh, a neighbour said: "We were at our house and, suddenly, we heard a cry. When we went out, their house was on fire and even the verandah was also in flames.'' While Asha, Sachin, and Usha escaped, Mohanappa and his youngest Srinath died on the spot.

Fire Force personnel were called in, who completely doused the fire. Asha, who suffered few injuries, was taken to St John's Hospital.

As soon as the news broke, several people gathered in front of the quarters but all were shaken after the incident.

Mohanappa was earlier working at the DG & IGP's office. He was a native of Belekoni in Aurad taluk near Bidar. While his elder son Sachin has completed PUC, the other three kids study at NES school.
