ICYM Udupi deanery holds Yuva Samagam

Udupi, Jul 4: ICYM Udupi deanery celebrated Yuva Samagam 2019 on Sunday, June 30 at Stella Maris Church Kalmady hall. Fr Ronson D’Souza, animator ICYM Udupi deanery, inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling as a gesture of environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion Fr Alban D’souza, parish priest Kalmady Church said, “We expect good things from our youth. We also work towards this. If youths accept our words which we tell for their goodwill, the society will be benefitted at the end. Practice what you discuss here. Jesus, 2,000 years ago, expected qualities of leadership, compassion, and service from our youth. Let his dream come true.”

Fr Ronson D’souza, director ICYM Udupi deanery, addressing the gathering said, “Youths are strength of our society and church. Without youth power, we cannot do anything. You have to spread the message what you learn here. Small Christian community is very much useful to build our community.”



Fr Praveen Montero, ICYM Kalmady unit director, Dion Dsouza, president, ICYM Udupi diocese, Vilton, president, ICYM Udupi deanery, Glaston Menezes, secretary, ICYM Udupi deanery, Melwyn Carvelho, president, ICYM Kalmady unit and Joyson D'Souza, secretary, ICYM Kalmady unit were present on the occasion.

Melwyn Carvelho welcomed the gathering, Joyson D'Souza extended the vote of thanks, and Wenilda D’Mello compered the programme.

Fr Joachim Fernandes, director, Small Christian community, Mangaluru diocese, was the resource person for the event.

Youths of Udupi deanery ICYM units presented plays on various parables of the Bible also sang songs related to Konkani Culture.

The valedictory function was presided by Fr Valerian Mendonca, dean, Udupi deanery. In his message, he said, “I am happy to see so many youths from Udupi deanery here. I congratulate all the youths who have performed today. I appreciate the service of Fr Lawrence in his tenure as deanery ICYM director. I also appreciate the step taken by our youth towards saving mother earth. It is a very good initiative.”

Fr Lawrence Cuthino, former ICYM director Udupi deanery, was felicitated on the occasion. Addressing the gathering he said, “I am really happy to see Udupi youths here. You all are not only shining in Udupi but the whole diocese. All of you are filled with talents and may these talents help you shine where ever you go.”

ICYM Perampalli unit won the first place in the cultural programme followed by ICYM Katpady unit and ICYM Udupi unit sharing second and third runner up respectively.

ICYM members of Udupi deanery participated in the programme.

Vilton D'Souza welcomed the gathering, Glaston Menezes extended the vote of thanks, and Ornella D'Souza compered the valedictory programme.
